VEX IQ Elementary Division with Triangle Elementary School

August 2014 - May 2015

Amaze Award at the World Championship

From August 2014 to May 2015, I was part of the VEX IQ robotics club at Triangle Elementary School, and what started as a casual after-school robotics club quickly turned into something way bigger than I ever expected. At first, I wasn’t sure how much would come out of it, but joining the team opened my eyes to the worlds of programming and engineering. We even dove into a research project on mechanical advantage, which really sparked my curiosity. I worked incredibly hard that first year, and it paid off in a huge way. My team made it all the way to the VEX IQ World Championship, where we earned the Amaze Award. It was an unforgettable experience that helped kickstart my passion for STEM.

Robot and Research Project from the Philadelphia Specialty Event

My passion for robotics and engineering continued into middle school, where I joined the VEX IQ robotics team at Graham Park Middle School from May 2015 to May 2016. This experience gave me the opportunity to focus even more on engineering design and problem-solving. I dove deeper into building and iterating smarter designs, and all that effort paid off. I made it to the VEX IQ World Championship for the second year in a row! Being part of this team helped me grow and find my confidence as a young woman in STEM.

VRC Middle Division with Graham Park Middle School

May 2016 - May 2017

Design Award for Best Engineering Notebook

Teamwork Champion Award for Highest Scoring Finals Match

From May 2016 to May 2017, I leveled up once again by joining the VEX Robotics Competition team at Graham Park Middle School. It was a big leap. We traded in plastic parts for metal robots, and that meant more complex builds and more advanced programming. The learning curve was definitely steep, but I embraced the challenge. My team and I poured our energy into designing, testing, and documenting every step of our process. In the end, we created not only a competitive robot but also an exceptional engineering notebook that showcased our growth and teamwork. This year truly pushed my skills to a new level and fueled my excitement for engineering.

Double Catapult

From May 2017 to May 2019, I took on another exciting challenge by joining the VRC High School Division of robotics with a team I helped create, Enginotic 6 Robotics. When our high school couldn’t provide enough support for the robotics club, five friends and I (with the help of our amazing parents) decided to take matters into our own hands. We launched a private team right out of a basement, forming our own LLC and fundraising to support what became affectionately known as our “basement robotics program.” It was a huge step up in both competition level and responsibility, but our hard work paid off. We made it to the VEX World Championship for two years in a row! The program grew beyond the original six of us and still exists today. Building something from the ground up like that was an unforgettable, fun, and empowering experience.
